And here are a few of mine.
Tip Of The Day: Behold, my first ever solicited review! Whereas someone contacted me and said, “Hey you – tell us what you think of this product here.” Fortunately for all involved, I thought quite highly of that product there.
Also, a non-solicited, unrequested, not-at-all-asked-for-but-too-bad-you’re-getting-it-anyway review of YET ANOTHER hair care product. I know, it’s a sickness and I’m actively seeking help.
Tip For Tomorrow: Great stuff to do this weekend, including stopping back at Cheap But Not Easy for my second-ever guest post this Sunday, brought to you by Ira from GlassyEyes.
Further Elucidation Of My Cheap Deal: A few weeks ago, a gentleman from The Original Country Bob’s All Purpose Sauce company e-mailed me and asked if I could try their sauce (insert naught joke here) and write a review of it for my web site.
All I heard was, “FREE STUFF FOR YOU!” So naturally, I acquiesced. Then the sauce arrived in the mail (two bottles even! They weren’t kidding around.) and it dawned on me. Huh. They REALLY wanted me to try this stuff and give them my honest opinion.
Problem: what if the sauce sucks? Which is a real concern for me, because oddly enough, I don’t care for most condiments (insert second naught joke here). I REALLY didn’t want to write a bad review, but I was committed now to the Country Bob people, and I couldn’t back down now.
As luck and the condiment-making talents of Country Bob would have it, the sauce tastes great. It’s smoky without being too smoky, it’s tangy without being too tangy, it’s sweet and spicy without… you get the idea. It’s a nicely balanced, full-flavored, not too-salty sauce that works great on chicken, pork, beef, and how I eat it, boiled new potatoes. Yummy! Two thumbs up for Country Bob’s!
To get sauced yourself, go to Country Bob’s Web Site and order away.
While pondering Country Bob, I remember that I promised you a review of the Captivating Curls Gel & Cream Twist by Sunsilk. You may recall (or maybe not, you all have busy and full lives), I picked up the product last week in the hopes that it would turn my limp wavy hair in to huge bouncy curls.
Well, it did not. However, I think that’s a defect of my hair texture and not the styling product. Captivating Curls did thicken and soften my hair – when left to air-dry. I had large, soft WAVES, just not curls. And it stayed volumized for both days of the Ren Fest, which is what I truly wanted. Best of all, it doesn’t dry all crunchy and wet-looking, or tacky and sticky-feeling. It is hands-down the best air-dry product I’ve ever tried.
Then I decided to blow-dry and straighten my hair with it. Hello volume! Hello much faster drying time! However, after using it four days in a row, either letting it air-dry or blow-drying it, Hello kind of fried hair!
Captivating Curls is not, and can not be, an every day product for me. By day four, I had to use a leave-in conditioner on my tips, and even that wasn’t enough to combat the dryness. But I can rotate it every other day with the Hot Straight Cream by L’Oreal for great-looking hair at all times. Hooray! Another hair product option, available at Target for under $4!
Until Target decides to carry every product in the Captivating Curls line EXCEPT for the Gel and Cream Twist. Which I can soooooo see them doing. Who me? Paranoid much, you say?

You're making me look bad-I still have to experiment with my Country Bob's recipes!
Also, I SO could have told you about the Sunsilk Captivating Curls. I had to have the hairdresser take extra off on my last trip and I still have some damaged ends from that crap. I was trying to curtail my expensive dependence on Aveda's Be Curly, but there isn't a product around that is kind to my curls and leaves them nourished and moisturized instead of dried and fried.
Hmmm. Your review has caused me to consider sucking on Bob's sweet sauce. (Insert third naughty joke here>
Seriously, we should take our show on the road to the open mike night at the Chuckle Hut.
I have been asked to do two product reviews. One was for contact lenses. I have 20/20 vision. The second was for a water drink. I work for a major national beverage company, and it wasn't one of ours.
I declined on both. Still waiting for someone to ask me to review Prada clothing, or maybe a digital camera would be nice.
Like Amy, I've been trying to get into the habit of using more reasonably-priced, good quality products for my curly hair, too. But I've not found much. Garnier Fructis has a great leave-in conditioner, for about $3.99 at Target. I also like the Tressemme line. But mostly, I've been using Aveda and Nick Chavez (my best luck so far) products (more than $3.99!) since I've not had loads of luck otherwise, avoiding dried, frizzy hair gooped up with crud. Try Garnier Fructis, Erin. A hairstylist on Cooper's show once gave it praise and recommended the line.
I'm a big of John Frieda Frizz Ease Dream Curls Curl Perfecting Spray (that's a mouthful, right?)
It makes my wavy hair curly without being crispy, and you can spray it on dry hair to "invigorate" it if it falls flat.
