This just in – Unity Hospital in Fridley is hosting an open house tomorrow, promising fun for the whole family, plus a peek into their brand new ER facility. They don’t call it Friendly Fridley for nothing, folks:
“People don’t need to be sick or injured to see Unity Hospital’s new emergency department. The ER will be open for tours October 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
An open house will feature an interactive health fair and kids’ activities, including an “operation” game, obstacle course, crafts and free pumpkins for kids. Unity’s recently remodeled pediatric unit and the Family Birth Center will also be open for viewing. There will also be free blood pressure screenings, live music and refreshments.
The open house is free, but a donation of a non-perishable food item for the Southern Anoka County Assistance food shelf is requested.
With 39 private rooms, Unity’s ER is one of the metro’s largest. Two new state-of-the-art trauma rooms support Unity’s recent Level 3 trauma certification. There are new rooms designed specifically for patients challenged with obesity, mental health concerns, and victims of sexual assault.
‘This expansion gives our community one of the most current and efficient emergency services in the metro area,’ said Rickie Ressler, president of Unity Hospital.
All of Unity’s ER physicians are board-certified in emergency medicine. Nearly 42,000 emergency patients were treated at Unity last year, and 45,000 patients are expected this year. From entering to discharge or admission, patients spend about 195 minutes in Unity’s ER, one of the shortest times in the metro area.”

That actually sounds fascinating. I'd go, but after 2 brief (thank goodness!) hospital stays this summer, I'm all hospitaled out right now. I haven't seen Unity Hospital for almost 40 years (one of those things — Mom had contractions, etc.,
and then THERE I was). I'm sure it's changed since then. If anyone is able to go to the event, it'd be interesting to hear about it!
