Resolution One: The Blanket Song
“…Elmo’s best friend/ Together, forever/ The world seems fine…”
What we learn from this song is that time spent with one’s best friends makes life sweeter. (That, and it’s really annoying to refer to one’s self in the third person. Elmo, dude, learn the word “I.”)
Therefore, I resolve to spend more time with friends, in person and via the blogosphere, and to nurture my new and improved friendships with such lovely ladies as Trayner, Georgie, Potter, Princess, etc.
Resolution Two: That Song Sung By The Shrubbery
“Take the first step/ Then you will see/ Just how strong your heart can be…”
This song is about starting the journey, without sweating so much whether or not you’ll make it to the end. The important thing is that you try, and not turn away from what you want to do because of fear of failure.
Therefore, I resolve to make the first steps to achieve my big goals for 2009 – get a weekly show (radio or TV or both), land a guest appearance on a nationally syndicated show (OPRAH!), and get signed with a talent agency. Hey, my heart is strong and the Shrub says I can do it.
Resolution Three: The Junk Queen’s Point of View Song
“… in life it’s all your point of view/ Your point of viiieeeeeeeewwwwwww…”
The Junk Queen may be singing about how she sees a junkyard as her kingdom, “shiny and new,” but we can take away a slightly broader lesson. It’s up to YOU to decide how to look at the situations in your life. Quit stressing about how others view you and what you do, and instead, put a positive spin on stuff.
Therefore, I resolve to have a positive point of view, and a sunny outlook for the year to come. Call me a cockeyed optimist, but if it works for Vanessa Williams, it can work for me.
Resolutions Four, Five and Six: Having NOTHING To Do With Elmo
Drink more water and eat healthier at home and when dining out.
Exercise 3 times a week or more, consistently every week.
Find the song Concealed Weapons by the J. Giles Band and download it onto my IPod. Seriously, I’ve been looking for it for THREE YEARS now.
Question Of The Day: What are your New Year’s Resolutions?

I'm still working on mine… my big determination this year is to make resolutions that I will actually do (unlike most years where I make a list of fifty goals and forget all of them by January 12th). I like the Elmo-style, though. Maybe keeping it on a pre-school level will help. Hee hee. Have a great New Year's!
Ahem. I see that our friendship is so well defined and NAY resolute that I do not need to be mentioned in your resolutions.
That is ok. I can cry quietly to myself in the corner, a mixture of sadness at not being mentioned by name in an ELMO-THEMED post, and happiness at knowing that I am too important in your life to be mentioned in an ELMO-THEMED post.
Also? Did you know that Elmo likes the #5 and has a goldfish named Dorothy? He did back in 1997 anyway, and I say thank you (THANK YOU!) for reminding me. I will now just toddle off into the corner and mumble "Goodnight Moon" and the various works of Sandra Boynton, that I thought had been relegated to the part of my brain labeled "Dear God Make It Stop."
Happy New Year. I bet El Jefe has that song.
