Tip Of The Day: I finally found my VO5 Hot Oil Treatment in a store, plus my favorite self-tanner that I thought was gone for good.
Tip For Tomorrow: This ain’t your mother’s disco – and it ain’t her regular, boring, been-there-bought that consignment store, either. Stop by tomorrow for the low down on three TC consignment stores that are NOT kickin’ it old skool.
Further Elucidation Of My Cheap Deal: A few years ago, I fell in love with a self-tanner (as you do) made by Neutrogena. It was their foam tanner – a light-weight, liquid foam that spread evenly, dried quickly, didn’t schmear off on everything, and tanned my skin a perfect, natural color. In short, it was the perfect product.
So naturally, Neutrogena discontinued it.
For the next couple of years, I made do with sub-par tanners and lotions and bronzers (ICK), still pining for my one true love. And lo! While shopping at Walgreens in North Oaks yesterday with the Teen Girl I Nanny, I found it. Neutrogena’s Sun Fresh Sheer Summer Color for Fair/Medium Skin for the low price of $9.99. Granted, Target used to carry it for $8.99, but I found it at Walgreens first. So they win.
Walgreens also wins in another category – one even closer to my heart. That, of course, would be my hair. Apparently I was high/drunk/half-asleep the last time I looked there for VO5, because I found it in two seconds yesterday.
Why did I have such a difficult time in my hunt for VO5? Probably because I didn’t quite realized HOW EXPENSIVE IT’S BECOME. Like $4.99 for two tubes of oil. That you only leave on your hair for 1 minute (unless you’re me, and you leave it on for however long it takes to shave in the shower). That’s almost $2.50 per tube, or $2.50 per minute. Sheesh. Math is not fun in this example.
However, VO5 Hot Oil Treatment continues to work its magic on my hair, so I’ll be ponying up the cash this winter for the tiny oil tubes. On the bright side, I’ll be tan for less. It’s all about compromise, people.

I need more details on this self tanner. I must say I have reservations. I'm very pale, and I'd like not to be, but really… does it REALLY work? How long does it last? Do you put it on large portions of your body? How long does it take to work? Can I get some details if you have the time, oh maven of all beauty products? Please?
VO5 is available at the Walgreens in Edina, too. Bottom shelf, whatever THAT means.
I had no idea VO5 hot oil was so difficult to track down. Sally's beauty supply or Ulta usually have everything you'd need to find
