Apparently, if I’m not shopping for costuming/sewing goodies, I’m just plain shopping. I used my two (TWO!) auditions as an excuse to buy more camera-ready clothing, and makeup, AND hair supplies. Not to be confused with Air Supply, of course.
Here’s the damage I did to my credit card this week. And here’s hoping I actually book one of those jobs, so I can pay it off:
Sunday, April 19
Walgreens, none-of-your-business prescription, $14.85
Tuesday, April 21
CVS Pharmacy, hair styling product, new pink blush, nail file (and a bottle of overpriced water, but I was just too thirsty to care), $32.21
Wednesday, April 22 (aka, Day Of Shopping DOOM)
Eddie Bauer Outlet, perfect white t-shirts, $15.98
CVS Pharmacy, shoe polish and another hair product, $11.75
Macy’s, cute new top for auditions and for upcoming Cheap Chick segments, $20.30
Marshalls, grown-up jeans by Tahari, $39.99
Thursday, April 23
Cub Foods, groceries, $21.29
Friday, April 24
Gas station, gas (dur), $20.12
Eddie Bauer, Lou’s birthday present, $20.00
Avenue, yet another long strand of pearls (with matching earrings!), $11.65
Saturday, April 25
Burger King, breakfast/lunch (enough for both), $5.53
Chevys Fresh Mex, birthday dinner for Lou and I, $50.61
Total: $264.28
So far, this whole keeping track of what I buy is clearly NOT HELPING. I need to hide my credit card or something. Even worse, the upcomming week won’t be any better – I’m having people over Friday night, going to a Ren Fest in New Ulm on Saturday, and taking a gaggle of pre-teens to the movies on Saturday night. Thank GOD I teach next week.
Maybe I should look into selling a kidney, or my spleen or some other unnecessary body part…

Freeze your credit card in a big thick block of ice so you can't use it until the things defrosts. The theory is that you will have time to get your rationale mind working before you impulse buy something you can't afford.
Another day, another dollar! I always try and rationalize my purchases by asking myself if I will love them "this many dollars worth" and if I will, then I don't feel guilty. But I'm still such a dang cheapskate. I think it helps that I hate shopping. (But it certainly won't win me any fashion awards or beauty prizes.)
You have had a rather full week. I think the purchasing will decline over the next several weeks. Because you will be saving up for Twig and Bristol.
Eh, don't be too hard on yourself. You're trying your best (and certainly, unexpected stuff does come around sometimes, so…). And besides, something so important like auditions can really drive you cuckoo-crazy nervous, since you really want to impress people and do well! Much like dates.
