Okay, I don’t have a robot. But I have good tips! Doesn’t that count for something?
Tip Of The Day: My readers have stuff to tell you, and far be it from to stop them. It’s good stuff, too, like the deets on super-cheap winter coats and awesome drive-in restaurants. Just typing those words made me hungry… and want to go shopping, sadly.
Tip For Tomorrow: Updates! On everything imaginable! Such as new links on my links page, new costumes completed, new hot men to ogle. So come for the information and stay for the eye candy.
Further Elucidation Of My Cheap Deal: A few weeks ago, our fearless Stunt Girl pulled off yet another amazing feat of thrifty derring-do and found this coat on super clearance at Target. I’d post a picture of it for you, but Target’s website is being RUDE and won’t let me steal it for my site. Jerks.
It’s 75% off – which is like they’re practically giving the damned thing away – so you only pay $24.99. It’s Isaac Mizrahi, so it’s fabulous, and it’s available in small, medium and large. Word to the wise, Isaac runs small so go up a size. Best of all, the coat is absolutely adorable. Which really? Is the most important thing about one’s winter coat.
Besides alerting us to an awesome deal, Stunt Girl’s email served another purpose. It reminds us that right now is the very best time to buy a winter coat. Granted, they’re harder to find, and the selection may be limited, but stores are essentially paying YOU to take their winter stock off their hands. Well, okay, not really paying you, but still. They’re offering great deals, is what I’m saying.
Check out your local thrift and consignment stores, or check online at places like Target, Victoria’s Secret, Spiegels and Newport News. You’re guaranteed to find ridiculously good deals on all sorts of classic winter gear that will still be in style next year. Thank you, Stunt Girl!
If you don’t feel like shopping (?) and you’re really hungry and you happen to be in the Mankato area, drive on down to Truman. Yes, Truman, MN. Why? Because it’s the home of the Drive In – the official drive-in restaurant of the Cheap But Not Easy Empire. Here’s what the super-cute owners have to say about their super-cool restaurant:
“During this recession, Jim and I want to prove that you can still take your family out for good food at good prices and have actual fun doing it. The Drive in is open 11-8 PM, 7 days a week, and our food includes burgers, fries, appetizers, and ice cream treats. We seat 28 people and have window service. On Fridays, we offer Jim's Famous Fish Fry. People travel from miles around to enjoy his fish fry as it is something really special. We are located along Highway 15 in Truman.”
Mmmmmmmm… fish fry. And? Mmmmmm… good prices. I wonder if I can talk Larue into heading down there after the Ren Faire in New Ulm? Maybe. Maybe she will if I offer to buy her an ice cream treat. She IS a sucker for ice cream.
Two more things before I let you wander off, back into the aether – I have Happy Birthday AND Happy New Job announcements to make. First, the Birthday: Happy Birthday, Potter! May you sell many pieces of your fabulous pottery this weekend at the Craftstravaganza! Second, the new job: Happy First Day at your New Job, Georgie! I know you’ll knock’em dead, sister! Okay, that’s it. You’re free to go now.

I've been recently scoring all manner of name brand fabulous clothes at my local thrift store for $2 each- and I swear these things have never been worn. I do so love my little thrift store. If only I could just hook up with the people who donate the stuff that fits me, and trade them baked goods for all the dang cute clothes that they never wear.

Thanks for the best wishes on the new job. It was really hard not to put my head down on my desk and take a nap, but I made it through today.
Today was a pretty good day. Slightly overwhelming as a first day on a new job usually is, but I'm going back tomorrow. I don't scare easily. Hee!
Thanks for the birthday wishes and the song, and for heavens sake, skibble over to the Fine Art Building on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds on Saturday from 9 – 5. I have thrify, crafty goodness. Can you say, handmade highfired stoneware shotglass for $5? How's them cheapness? Or, cool, one of a kind ceramic pendant necklaces for $12? Check out Marti Nelson – potter at Craftstravaganza!
Hey Great Tips, as usual! My hub gave me a great winter coat for Christmas, and unfortunately I have a bite sized closet, and can't put another thing in there!
Like Marie, I love thrift store finds and actually most of my clothes were free or $1.00, smokin deal!
