We interrupt today’s post to bring you the following news flash, for which I am eternally grateful. Plus all the other stuff I’m grateful for.
Tomorrow we’ll resume our regularly scheduled blog entry about how to spend less on vacation. We now return you to The Cheap Chick.com.
Last night, when I finally settled in to watch the news, I heard about a freaking MIRACLE (Not that I’m a normal news watcher – I’m just obsessively checking the weather until we leave for the outdoor Ren Faire in Kenosha, WI. Please, weather people, no rain!).
The two reporters who had been unjustly tried and convicted to 12 years at a work camp in North Korea were set free. By an act of God and Bill Clinton, Ms. Ling and Ms. Lee flew home last night to their anxiously awaiting families.
All I can say is, “Woot!” And also, “Yay!” Followed by a resounding “thank GOD… and oddly, Bill Clinton.” Because a. I had been following this news story from the beginning and b. I thought for sure those women would be killed or c. never set foot on American soil again. And now they are both free and alive and home where they belong.
As for their future reporting adventures? I recommend Canada. Or maybe Iowa. I hear Missouri is a hotbed of intrigue and interest…
This amazing new got me to thinking about what else I should be grateful for. The evening news was quick to provide me with something else to smile about:
Nixle.com – “Nixle is a Community Information Service providing one source for access to credible real-time community information.” This blah blah blah service is now available to Twin Citians.
What is it? Well, you sign up for their free service, and you receive email/text messages about everything from traffic accidents to police updates on active cases to breaking news about ongoing crimes.
Why is this something to be excited about? For one thing, knowing where traffic accidents are will help you avoid those roads – thus avoid being late for work, and the resulting road rage from sitting at a dead stop on the freeway. And as I mentioned, the service is FREE, which is always BEST.
Plus, I love that our police are working with modern technology to try and make the Cities a safer place. For this, I am grateful.
I’m also grateful that two of my BFF’s are back from vacation – Larue and HaC – safe and sound. I’m grateful that I did a decent job teaching Licensing Exam Prep for the first time EVER on Sunday. And I’m grateful I get to go on vacation (in costume! Which makes it even better!) this weekend with five of my buddies.
So let me ask you – what are you grateful for today? Remember, gratitude is also FREE.

I’m grateful for the job interview I went on today. That, after phone interviewing twicw with these people. While I did not get the job (yup, I know already, but I’m cool), it was still a great experience, I’m proud of myself, and I’m glad to get as far along in the process as I did. Silver lining? — the company is keeping me in mind for something more suitable to both of us. Mad grateful props to businesses who handle things as well as the folks I met with today. Plus, on my way home, I did a little shopping at MOA, finding a few awesome clearance deals. A good day, all in all.
