Spendy (not an actual word, according to Microsoft) is Minnesotan for ‘really farking expensive.’
Tip Of The Day: First up, my weekly recap of (relative) goodness and restraint, before delving into an unholy week of excessive spending. I’m going on vacation Friday and that means a bacchanal of wasting money. Sigh. It’s so hard to be frugal out of town. What with the dining out and the hotel charges and the shopping and the carousing…
Tip For Tomorrow: You know those bins and tubs of unmarked food-stuffs and other products you find at the grocery store/natural food store/co-op? Ever wonder how to use them and whether or not they save you money? Mystery solved, folks. Tune in tomorrow for the answer here and on Fox 9 News at 5 PM.
Further Elucidation Of My Cheap Deal: This week, I managed to not eat fast food every other day, but I still made way too many trips to Target – I really need to work on keeping a list and doing one big trip a week. Let’s take a look at how my spending racked up for the week, shall we?
Weekly Recap, The Quiet Before The Store Edition:
Sunday, July 26
Taco Bell, lunch while I was teaching so back off, $3.50
Holiday Station, gas for the car, $20.00
Monday, July 27
Target Trip One, small amount of groceries, $11.95
Tuesday, July 28
Target Trip Two, picked up a few items while shopping with my BFF Larue, $4.57
Target Trip Three, and then picked up a few more that I forgot, $3.45
Wednesday, July 29
Jo-Ann Fabric, trim for my Red Elizabethan, $10.23 (for 8 yards!)
Thursday, July 30
Subway Sandwich, a chicken salad so this doesn’t count as fast food, $4.75
Random gas station, more gas for my car, $20.00
Walgreens, necessities of the necessary kind, $7.15
Dairy Queen, yes I had two dining out experiences in one day, $3.24
Friday, July 31
Target Trip Four and Final, coffee and vinegar to clean the coffee maker, $6.23
Jo-Ann Fabric , fray-check and buttons, $6.29
Good Earth, dinner out with my family, $24.00
Saturday, August 1
Cub Foods, late night Totino’s run and peaches (for health), $3.25
Total for the Week: $128.61. That’s okay, but still not the best. Like I said, I really, REALLY need to work on curbing my trips to Target. And my dining out habits are still sub-par. Food and Target – they are my Waterloos. Worst of all, I won’t be able to do much better this week, since I’ll be traveling Friday and staying at a hotel on Saturday. Luckily, there aren’t a ton of Targets where we’re going…
Alright, enough of this self-flagellation (no, not as dirty as it sounds). Let’s look at some half-naked men (yes, as dirty as it sounds) and turn our collective Monday morning frowns upside down. Nothing brightens a day faster than hot guys:
Okay, he may not be half-naked, but he IS hot. Sean Bean, aka The Guy Who Looks Good In Period Costumes. Pictured above, Sharpe from Sharpe’s Rifles. Pictured below, Odysseus from Troy (my favorite hot guy from a film replete with hot guys):
He’s just so MANLY. However, I believe he’s on his fourth wife, so Mr. Bean would fall under the category of ‘look but don’t touch.’

so…do you ever project how much money you can spend in a week? For example if you only have $100 to spend a week then you may eat at home more???
Target is your addiction honey
Reeses and cute new tops are mine!
Face it — it’s in our blood as Minnesotans: Target, hometown behemoth. While I greatly admire your goal to spend as little and as wisely as possible, I humbly opine, Target is one of the lesser evils out there. Could be worse.
Continued good luck with the spending goals.
I LOVED Sean Bean on “Vicar of Dibley:” “Geraldine – don’t do it! Come here, lass….”
Sigh.
I love his Sharpe look, but it’s very Bowie circa Labyrinth. Which isn’t bad. Plus, from what I’ve read this newest wife is entertaining him in a rubber jumpsuit outfit. Not that I’ve looked him up or anything. Just saying.
