My eyes hurt, my neck hurts, my head hurts, hell MY BRAIN HURTS. Ergo, I’m posting a rerun. On the plus side, it’s an amusing rerun… that counts for something, right? Whatever, I need another aspirin.
My favorite room isn’t necessarily a room per see; it’s more of a chunk of room. I have an L-shaped living room, which was a mite difficult to arrange and decorate. So I turned the small leg of the L into a library.
(Which really is an over-inflated name for the four large bookshelves where I store all my books, CDs, movies, and doo-dads. Apparently, I have delusions of grandeur. So…yeah. Moving on.)
I present to you, The Cheap Chick Empire’s Library:
Not only does it house a large collection of Rosamund Pilcher paperbacks, The Library proudly exhibits this Snow Globe Retrospective:
Now on loan from the British Museum, Art die Plastiek mit Wasser.
Those items in the lower part of the picture? Those are called ‘Video Cassettes.’ Long ago, at the end of the century, they contained movies for our viewing pleasure. The Library maintains an extensive collection of these relics from the past.
I repose at The Library in this chair:
It was purchased from that great antique house, Dumpster Next To My Old Condo – as is the table. The foot-rest is from The House of Target and the lamp is from The People’s Republic Of Overpriced Furnishings (Pottery Barn).
One of the best parts of The Library is its proximity to fine dining:
I find it hard to read without eating. Of course, I find most tasks difficult without a little something to munch on, like writing or driving or lying down.
Thank you for stopping by The Cheap Chick Empire’s Library, your patronage is greatly appreciated. However, we will be closing in five seconds. Please make your final selections and then, you know, leave.
Damn, I have a LOT of dustable items. Uffda.

Ha! I too have the ‘videa cassette’ shelf and horror-of-horrors, still ‘tape’ shows that I want to watch later on. We do have a DVD player but no recorder. A friend of mine just commented that she didn’t know anyone else that still had a VCR.
And I collect snow globes as well, musical ones. Just turned the downstairs ‘everything’ room into my version of a library. Unfortunately it doesn’t have the proximity to a kitchen but we do have a second fridge for drinks. Now I just need to get a foot rest from my neighborhood frugal thrift store and a winter of reading will be just ahead.
Sorry you’re feeling so dang awful. Here’s hoping you’re better soon!
Dang, there are those awesome bookshelves from Ikea again! I am SO jealous of you. I would be on Cloud 9 if I could have a ton of those (I’d probably *need* a ton.). I love the part when you described your proximity to fine dining, and then had the fridge pic.
I really love your library. It’s awesome…so is your blog…first time reader.
I actually went a step further. My dining room and library are one and the same. Fine dining in the library! (armchair in the corner if sitting at the table doesn’t suit you). This is especially convenient when I decide to look for a recipe (I do have one entire bookshelf dedicated to cookbooks, sometimes it takes a while to find one, so I have to sit and rest. Or snack. Or both.)
