Let’s Get It Started In Here

Ah, the Black Eyed Peas.  May they forever be entwined with sports music.

This Sunday, millions of American football fans will hunker down in front of their massive TVs to watch the Colts destroy the Saints’ dream of Super Bowl glory.  That Peyton Manning may look like a sweetie, but he will TEAR YOUR HEART OUT.  On the field, at least.

In honor of the big game, my Fox 9 Morning Buzz segment pertained to where one could watch the Super Bowl if one wanted to get out of the house, but not spend a ton of money.  I also mentioned what type of skivvies I was wearing (Sigh… it’s like I have Foot In Mouth Disease.), which prompted this reaction from the Cheap Dude – “Honey, remember when I asked you not to discuss your underwear in public?  Please?  Is nothing sacred?”  Sorry!  You’d think this would be a simple request to fulfill…*

Moving on.  Here are my notes to the XP (executive producer) for your viewing pleasure:

The Vikings may not be playing, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the big game this Sunday.  Here are my picks for Twin Cities bar and grills hosting Super Bowl parties, where you’ll find good food and drinks at great prices.

Hopkins Tavern.  Starting at 3 PM and running throughout the game, they’re serving up tons of $2 appetizers, 30 cent wings (for parties of 5 or more), $2 off pizzas, and drink specials like $3 well drinks.  During half time, dig in to a complementary bowl of chili (yes, FREE chili) and enter to win their prize giveaways for items like a Jared Allen signed and framed jersey.

GBLeighton’s Pickle Park.  Stop by for their Super Bowl party.  They’re offering 2 for 1 drink specials from 3 to 7 PM, ½ off appetizers from 3 PM to game’s end, and starting at game time $4 pitchers and $5 premium pitchers.

J. Cousineau’s.  Start early with their Chili Bowl from 1 to 3 PM.  It’s just $5 for a spoon and a beer!  Sample all the chili and vote for your favorite.  Then stick around for their Tailgate Party from 3 to 7 PM, with $1.50 off appetizers, 2 for 1 drink specials, and Coors Light discounts starting at game time.  They also have a free numbers board where you can win cash prizes based on the game’s score, throughout the entire game.

The Mermaid Sports Bar and Bowling.  Watch the game from one of their 10 50” plasma screen TVs, or from the TV’s lining the bowling alley lanes.  That’s right – bowl and watch the game at the same time!  You’ll also find free chips and salsa, free popcorn, 35 cent wings and other great food deals, plus $2 domestic taps.  Best of all, if you get a bit too carried away with the game, you can spend the night at the adjacent AmericInn Hotel and Suites.

If you insist on staying home and watching the Super Bowl from the comfort of your own couch, be sure to stop by Lunds and Byerly’s first for their Football Features discounts and coupons.  Their ground beef sliders are just $5.99 for 12, plus you’ll get free mini buns (with coupon).  Or, pick up a pack of brats for $2.99 and get free brat buns (with coupon).  There are also coupons for wings – $19.99 for 50, and Summit Beer – $9.99 for a 12 pack.  And don’t miss their sale prices on snack trays, potato salad, meatballs and other football party favorites.

So, who plans to watch the big game?  And who will be watching it just for the commercials?

*The Cheap Dude doesn’t make a ton of requests regarding my Cheap Chick persona.  He just worries about my safety, and thinks that talking about certain topics – underwear, bras, anything naughty – brings out the stalkers of the world.  So it’s a request born out of love, not bossy-pants-ness.  Aww….

As usual, Cheap Chick, awesomely-helpful information! Even though I don’t care much for football, just hangin’ with the amigos at one of those places sounds groovy. I’ve been known to watch football, for the sheer pleasure of socialization.

The segment this morning — ROFL! Jason talked about it today on his radio show! I love it when you render him utterly speechless, with him laughing his head off. Or, rather, as he’s trying NOT to, live on-air. :-D

Ah, I remember your stories of GB Leighton’s. Heh.

I also heart the Cheap Dude. He can come over for Margarita Night anytime! Just tell him to stop winning so much on Poker Night!
