Last week I set myself the challenge of wearing at least one free item of clothing, jewelry, shoes, or accessories every day from Monday through Sunday. The results were so fun, thrifty and EASY, I carried on the experiment today, and have plans to wear freebies tomorrow, too. Here’s a sampling of what I wore (please bear in mind, I am in NO WAY a fashion blogger. Heck, I’m not even wearing the clothes in these pictures).
On Monday, I wore this gorgeous black jersey dress my Dad and StepMom bought me last year for my birthday (on sale at the dress shop in Dillards. WHY DON’T WE HAVE A DILLARDS IN MN???):

On Tuesday, I wore the black Nike exercise pants my buddy Swimmer gave me, and a grey printed t-shirt from Larue. Not very picture-worthy, and still in the laundry (yep, I’m a slacker). Moving on. On Wednesday, I wore another dress from Dad and StepMom:

Cute, yes? Especially with a denim jacket and brown boots. On Thursday I wore the black/yellow/grey tunic pictured last week. And on Friday I wore my Grandma boots (she wore these when she was 50+ years old, people) and a cute bracelet from my SIL:

On Saturday, I went for broke. First, a 3/4 length velvet jacket dressed me up enough to teach real estate class – a freebie from my BFF, HaC. Then I toned it down for bowling (at Pinz in Oakdale – highly recommend it) with a swapped green sweater and red bowling clogs (not pictured), also from HaC:

Sunday, I wore what everyone calls the Sherpa vest – when they’re not asking me if I’m channeling Janis Joplin. I love this vest my Dad and StepMom gave me for Christmas in ’09. I wore it with a free long-sleeved black tee from Larue:

And rounding out the vast quantities of clothing I receive as gifts from Dad and StepMom, I wore 2010′s year’s Christmas present to teach this morning:

Heck, I even wore freebie jammies this week. My Ma made the pants for me for Christmas a few years back, and my BFF Lou handed the shirt down to me… at some point. Don’t remember when:

So let’s recap – I wore gifts from my parents, my SIL, and my friends. I wore items I swapped for on the Flickr Swap Shop. I wore a bequest (personal property left behind by deceased folks for all you non-real estate folks). And I wore hand-me-downs (or acrosses, or ups, whatever floats your boat) from my buds. All free, all the time, baby!
I like this challenge so much, I’m going to keep it rolling for another week. I already have my freebies picked out for the next three days…
Do you wear free stuff? And if so, how do you acquire them?

My mom gave me a bunch of really nice fashion rings, which I wear every day (but not all of them at once — which would be pretty nutty, not to mention, uncomfortable). I get tons of compliments on them, which is fun. I enjoy the rings. Most of all, they’re neat reminders of my mother. She’s always had impeccable taste (she’s a huge Jackie Kennedy fan). I love her to pieces, even if she never were to toss any freebies my way.
I agree about the Dillards, we need one here. Used to go to one in Missouri when visiting relatives. Loved it! It was nice since they would usually have the clothing in stock for the season your in, not forward 6-8 months like here!
Nobody gives me that much free stuff. Of course, when my husband has bought me clothes I often didn’t care for his choices. Now my dear late MIL was wonderful to shop with and she would buy me lovely clothes and shoes.
