I Know This Much Is True

Who doesn’t love Spandau Ballet?  And this totally 80’s song?

1. Last week’s mini thrifty challenge – wear one freebie item and one thrifted item every day for 7 days – was an epic WIN.  As soon as I can take pretty pictures of said thrifted and free clothing/shoes/accessories, I will regale you all with the tale of what I wore in the last full week of March 2010.  The suspense must be killing you.

2.  This week’s mini thrifty challenge – my final mini, week-long challenge until Lent 2011 – is easy, good for my waistline, and will actually save me money.  I can not buy a single piece of Easter candy all week long.  Nor can I eat any candy, either.  However, there’s nothing to prevent me from buying all the candy in all the world when it goes on clearance at Target come the Monday after Easter Sunday.

3.  Speaking of Target, not shopping at Target for the 40 days of Lent?  In a word, it sucks.  Although I have a self-admitted Target addiction, shopping there is:

     a.  Convenient, as the nearest store is a mere six blocks from the Cheap Chick Empire.  Thus, I save on gas and mileage.

     b.  Convenient, as I’ve been shopping at that store for 13 years.  Therefore, I know where everything, thus I save time.

     c.  Convenient, as most of the things I need to buy are located under one roof.  For example, I had to buy matchstick carrots, a day planner, hangers and shampoo the other day.  Instead of just going to Target, I ended up hitting up 3 separate stores.  Target has what I want, thus I don’t have to travel to a billion stores, thus saving time, gas, AND mileage.  Sunday can not come soon enough.

4.  Since I can’t go to Target, I’ve been shopping more at Cub Foods.  And OHMYGAH, what good things are on sale this week!  Lean Cuisines (my go-to lunch or dinner when I’m trying to get my eating and portion control back on track) are all just $1.99 a piece.  Plastic containers of strawberries are just $1.50 each.  Baby pit ham in the deli is $3.99 a pound, and tastes delish when sliced paper thin.  Hey, it’s lunch time, right?

What frugal truths do you have to share today?  The comments await your outpouring of thrift.

My truth is that bags of pet food is cheaper at Target than at my local grocery store or the pet stores like Petco/Petsmart. I’m also looking forward to hitting yard sales this year (probably starting this weekend) since it is now spring.

Erin, sorry for your pain of missing Target. Hang in there — there’s light at the end of the tunnel! :-D

I love Cub, almost as much as Target, truth be told. Last week, I got 1-lb baby carrots, buy 1, get 1 free with store coupon. They recently had bags of potatoes on the same kinda deal, which I also partook of. Celery was just a buck a bag last week, too. I got a great Pyrex loaf pan at Savers for 99 cents. There wasn’t a price on it, and after looking at it, a cashier cheerfully said, “Ah, 99 cents!”

Those are my frugal truths, and I’m sticking to them. :-)

I have to tell you that I love your mini challenges! You have inspired me to start my own although mine are mostly going to be geared to health improvement and weight loss but what the heck I am sure there will be some mini financial/thrifty ones in there too! Just wanted you to know that you inspired me and I blog about it and mentioned you! :)

Hey – I have spent far less time at Joann’s this year than last year, which has to be nearly as painful to me as not going to Target is for you.

Either way – hang in there sister! It is mere days away…. although all the Cadbury Creme Eggs might be gone by then. Just sayin.

    Cooper Rocks!

Many fabulous people have helped The Cheap Chick Empire throughout the years, and one of the best and coolest people to give me a hand up is Cooper Lawrence.  So I was THRILLED when I saw she had a new book out – The Yoga Club.  Dudes, you should all go buy it now and then read it and then say awesome things about it.

Why?  Because Cooper is an amazing writer.  And?  A vastly entertaining person.  So it’s worth your time and money.  Cooper Lawrence!  She is Cheap Chick Approved.
