You might be reading the above header, scratching your head and thinking, “I don’t get it.” That’s the point, for once. Over the next few days, we’re playing a fun new game at the Empire, created by yours truly and geared toward getting our collective creative juices flowing.
Here’s how it works – every day, I’ll post a post with a completely random title (and sort-of coordinating photo/picture). Then, in the Comments, write what you’d think the ‘back of the book’ description would be. In other words, pretend that’s a real title for a book, and then? Describe the book. Is it a murder mystery? Science fiction/fantasy? Chick-lit? Self-help? A cook book of food that only looks good from far away? You decide, and then tell us all about it below.
A fun, free activity, guaranteed to generate giggles. Who says you can’t have fun whilst expanding your brain on the Internet? Does your mom say that? Then tell her SHE IS WRONG. But then give her a hug, so she knows you still love her.
Now on to today’s frugal goodness. First up, an announcement from my buddy Probie’s big sis, Rocketdog (Yes, these are their REAL nicknames. I didn’t make them up.). All Saints Lutheran Church in Minnetonka is having a massive garage sale Wednesday the 9th and Thursday the 10th. The sale runs from 8 AM to 6 PM – go here for deets. Best of all, most items will be a $1 or less. Best of all, part two, all proceeds go toward the All Saints Child Care and Preschool programs. Which is good, as I belive Rocketdog’s daughter, Rocketpuppy, attends these programs. Shop the sale! Support the Puppy! She is awfully cute, you know.
In other cheap news, our fearless Stunt Girl has this piece of info to spread to the masses (aka the Cheap Chick Empire): How to reuse ceramic dishes. It seems our Girl is moving soon, and is already planning for the damage the move will surely incure. Forethought! I love that!
And in other, OTHER news, our fearless Seamstress, Larue (aka, my BFF) is selling some lovely 18th Century-type gowns on her FB page. Here is the link, and yes, that is my dress from Costume Con. What? I’ve worn it already – on to something new! (And… I don’t have any place else to wear it. I do TRY to be practical with my costuming, folks.) Also, Larue will have even more fabulous gowns for your perusal, so you should probably go ahead and Fan her on Facebook at The Accidental Seamstress. Her costumes are totally gorg, and VERY reasonably priced.
Alright, now it’s time for the fun! Write your book summaries below, and let those juices flow! Creative juices. Sheesh, there’s no need to be grody.

Actually, you did make up Probie. It has, however, become an acceptable nickname, so carry on. I also go by Danger Kitty, DK, and Chachi. Take your pick.
Rocketpuppy does not attend the programs (yet), but Rocketdog does run part of them. So, in a sense, it’s still supporting the Puppy.
Oh yeah. That’s right – I did make up Probie. Now drop and give me twenty, Probie!!!
Thanks for the plug! Now we can advertise our sale “as seen at thecheapchick.com”
That itself is worth the price of admission!
We have TONS of boys clothes (3-6 years), newborn/ infant clothes, and large toys, including a trampoline that plays music! Books, puzzles, games, a few brand new appliances….the list goes on and on! And rumor has it, the Puppy is coming out to visit Mommy at some point tomorrow to shop
OK, I’ll play.
“From a Far Distance” is a love story (chick lit) that starts out with two young kids who meet at summer camp when they are 8 and go every summer for many years. Then the last year the girl does not return and the boy finds out her family was in an accident and everyone died but the girl and she has lost her memory. It is up to him to bring her back ‘from a far distance’ away to remember that she loves him. Happily ever after…the end. Formulaic but you didn’t say it had to be good.
It’s a murder mystery that takes place in Northern California along the coast. Hard-boiled (but actually a softie inside) PI Ann Hardaway is called in by the family after their 21-year old daughter’s body is washed up on the shore….
She lived as a princess in a castle, surrounded by clouds. Nights she was lulled to sleep by the music of strings and reeds. She wanted more.
He lived with a mangy dog in a cave overlooking the coast. The wind and waves were his lullaby. He didn’t know there was more.
Discover the miracle that brought them together. You’ll cheer as they fight the powers that try to keep them apart. You’ll sob uncontrollably as he naively gives her the only thing she really wants.
You’ll want to read the last chapter first, but it is only available on line after you correctly answer the twelve question quiz to prove you’ve read the book.
From a Far Distance – the tale of two mathematicians and the love that dare not speak its name.
It was at MIT that they met in Advanced Calculus class, and from the moment their eyes met across a crowded room, both of them in their thick glasses with heavy black frames, they knew it was meant to be. Constantly torn apart by Rhodes Scholarships and internships with brain trusts, Quinn and Pat fought to preserve their love through e-mails, phone calls and hidden messages in quadratic equations.
When one receives the ultimate dream job of a professorship at Oxford, whilst the other is compelled to teach proofs to homeless teens, how can their love survive? Only the Formula of Love can save them. But will…it…be…enough… to…pass…the…test… of time AND distance?
