Me? Oh, I’m just fine, thanks for asking.
It’s been an entire month since I started my Shopping May-hem Challenge, wherein I can only spend $25 or less on every single item I buy. And so far? So good. Even at Costume Con, where I gave myself permission to go over $25, I didn’t. The most I spent was $10 on a pair of boots – boots of EPIC FAIL, I might add. But more on those later this week. I’m still sulking about their failure.
In the month of May, my most expensive purchases have been:
1. A pair of Converse One Star shorts from Target for $21.
2. Shoe repair for my favorite pair of heels, for $21.90
3. Fabric for all my costumes for the Ren Fest season. The highest priced chunk came in at $24.98 (juuuuuuust under the $25 maximum!). All the fabric was bought on sale, with coupons, over the holiday weekend.
Otherwise, I’m livin’ frugal up in here. I’m exploring the library, utilizing MN’s numerous parks, borrowing DVDs from friends, and in general, not spending a ton of money. Fortunately, it hasn’t been too painful. There isn’t anything, besides fabric, I feel the urge to spend money on. I even went thrifting the other day and bought NOTHING. Shocking, I know.
My most expensive outings have been going to the movies. My buddy, Georgie, and I saw Robin Hood (LOVE) and The Prince of Persia (DEEP LIKE). If it’s a period picture, with hot men taking off their shirts, I’ve seen it. And although we went at peak hours – at $10 a ticket – it was so worth it. You can’t put a price tag on a fine set of abs, people.
The other side of not spending money is making some spare change. And to that end I’ve listed some items for sale – a pair of boot on eBay, and a free-standing punching/kicking bag on Craigslist. I also have some IPod speakers for sale – actually shaped like speakers, and not like a dog or penguin or robot. They work well, charge your IPod when it’s connected, and even come with a remote control. Make me an offer I can’t refuse…
What are you doing this month to live life frugal and fabulous?

I drove the checkout boy at Walmart nuts yesterday but it was worth it when I got to use… $35.72 in coupons! God Bless AllYou Magazine, for their all dollars-off coupons. I got make-up, shampoo, leave in conditioner, fiber (don’t judge, lest you too will become old and irregular someday), food, beverages, and assorted hygeine products with coupons. The only thing I paid full price for was new underpants and a sports-bra.
I also yard-saled on Saturday since it was yard sale days in Bloomington. I spent less than $20 and got 4 new purses (yes, new, not just new to me! Oh, the luck!), scarves for crafting, an awesome “rubber duckie” planter, a jug for making sun-tea, some books of household tips (Helllloooo, Heloise!) and, my awesome score, one lady GAVE me a vintage barbie case (1961) with an original brunette bikini barbie, Betsy McCall and Vogue Jill doll inside. Yes, Barbie is busted up and her head is now destined to become a pendant on the creepiest necklace ever, but the others are SCORES!
I also started my seedlings this weekend so that I will have three varieties of Basil this summer for pesto-making. They charge way too much for this stuff at the grocery store.
Since the purchase of the gas cow in the garage I’m trying to be aware of the number of trips I take and where. I’m trying to map it out like the UPS drivers do.
Thanks for blogging!
Wow, I don’t think I could top Stunt Girl’s bounty.
Her frugal treasures sound amazing! Congrats, SG. I’m so jealous of the purses stash you scored (I’m a purse nut.). .
To live frugally and fabulously, I’m using the library a lot. Good stuff.
We’re trying to cut back on picking up dinner and making our dinners in advance so we’re prepared for our busy weeks. We’re also trying to find fun things to do with our boys that won’t cost much. The one I’m the most excited about is packing a picnic and watching the airplanes land and take off, I’m just excited to watch the reaction of my boys, this will be a first for them and I can’t wait.
