“…when, um, some other stuff…” Yeah, I don’t actually know the words to Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Sorry. Moving on.
Do you ever feel bleah? Or meh? Or filled with the ennui, and you don’t know how to yank yourself up by the boot-straps and get crackalackin’? It happens to the best of us from time to time. Heck, I’m sure even Rachel Ray gets the blues (or even the mean reds) once in awhile.
The question is, how does a body stop the blahs? And seeing as I’m all about the frugalness, how do you Get It Started In Here, without blowing your wad with retail therapy? Or expensive chocolates? Or a year’s supply of Totino’s Party Pizzas (yes, I’m hungry and I have my period, how did you guess?)?
Here’s what works for me: Whenever I need to kick-start my heart (ala Motley Crue), get my creative juices flowing, and chase my existential blues away, I turn to the infinite creativity available on the Interwebs. The WWW is FREE, and if you log on at the library, getting to the Web is free as well.
These are the sites and sounds I’m loving right now. They’re guaranteed to give you cool ideas, inspire happy thoughts, and get the Black Eyed Peas stuck in your head all day.
You know I have a deep and abiding love for personal style fashion bloggers. My latest obsession is Kansas Couture, available here. Katy is insanely fashionable AND the best thrifter I’ve ever encountered – in the real world or the virtual. Plus, she looks a bit like a non-crazy-depressed-possessed Katie Holmes, which is nice.
Speaking of combining thrift/fashion/creativity, where has NewDressADay been my whole life? What’s that you say? It’s only been around for 6 months? And I’m clearly older than 6 months? Ergo, I’ve not been missing this site for the entirerity of my existance? Quit being so literal, I say, and check out this fashionista’s commitment to spending only a dollar a day on her wardrobe for an entire year. DANG. Now that’s a challenge.
You know what else is a challenge? Writing hysterically funny lyrics to the Black Eyed Peas’ I’ve Got A Feeling. And yet, these dudes pulled it off, and created one of the best songs in the history of ever. Careful, though, as this is not entirely suitable for work.
Of course, if you’re a purist, you’d probably rather listen to the Peas sing their own dang song. May I recommend this version – the flash mob on Oprah? I love this video so much (confession time, it chokes me up whenever I watch it), even though, yes, the song is suffering from a wee bit too much over-exposure.
That’s what works for me. What works for you? How do you get out of a deep blue funk?

How about instead of dreaming of getting on the Oprah show, you just take over for her? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100607/ap_en_ot/us_tv_your_own_show
To get out of a deep blue funk, I do one or more of the following:
It can be hard sometimes, but it helps to remember how lucky and blessed I truly am.
– play with the dog
– go for a walk
– call, visit, or e-mail friends, family
– as I’m out and about, strike up conversation with strangers who don’t look psycho
– visit with some awesome neighborhood kids who crack the ever-livin’ heck outta me, and who are true sweeties
– listen to the radio (Jason and Alexis on MYTalk 107.1 rock.)
– remember how blessed I am, regardless of the situation I’m bumming about
Ooh, thanks a bunch for the linky to NewDressADay…love it!! Wish I was so crafty!! I am working on coming up with a steampunk-inspired bellydance costume for TRF this fall and am reworking some goodwill finds for it, but I have a lot harder time imagining what things could be than she evidently does!!
BTW, have you heard of the fairly newish fad for a fun way to get in shape? It’s hooping!! I’m gonna be getting my first good hooping hoop in the next week or so and am pretty stoked!!
