Aha! I knew I could find more non-offensive lyrics to Hair. Thank you, Google.
I’ve been remiss in discussing inexpensive hair care products, and now I have a backlog of not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR different products in my arsenal. Bad Cheap Chick, BAD. So, with no further procrastination, here are the deets on the stuff that is making my head happy today:
John Fried Collection Root Awakening Strength Restoring Smoothing Lotion. I found this on sale at CVS for a mere $5, and thus, snatched it right up. It does an okay job of smoothing my hair whilst I blow dry it straight, and it keeps the ends from poofing and tangling. I don’t see much shine from it (although that’s a promise made on the bottle), but it doesn’t dull my hair, either. The best part about this stuff? The SMELL. It smells like green tea and mint and a hint of lime (maybe? something tart) and I totally want this made into a summer cologne. Which I would then apply liberally, to the annoyance of my perfume hating friends.
Herbal Essences Hydralicious Featherweight Shampoo. You guys. YOU GUYS. This stuff smell so freaking yummy; I have to resist eating it in the shower (it doesn’t taste as good as it smells. Trust me.). I love that smell, and the rich lather it makes so much, I’ve been using it as a body wash. And that’s probably the best use for this product. Featherweight is a bit TOO cleansing – it’s drying out my hair, “Hydralicious” or not. I think I’ll try a different Herbal formula next time and keep this as the aforementioned body wash.
Garnier Fructis Style Curl Sculpting Cream-Gel. I’ve reviewed this product before, and it continues to be my go-to blow dry cream in the summer. A little goes a long way, it holds my straight style in all but the most humid weather, and it doesn’t flatten my hair or make it look greasy. It doesn’t perform the best when I air-dry my hair, but if I combine it with aerosol hair spray (bad for the environment, I KNOW), it works well – my hair dries wavy and volumized.
Suave Professionals Weather Protection 365 Anti-Friz & Flyaway Cream Gel. I found this at Jewel Osco in Chicago, so I’m not sure you can buy this in the TC. So far, I’ve only used it when I’ve air-dried my hair, with mixed results. It doesn’t make my hair look limp or greasy, and it does smooth the frizzies, but it does NOT make my hair wavy. I had to add the Garnier to wave it up. However, I’m looking forward to using it when I next blow dry – especially with more humid weather on the horizon. I hope it can lock out the poof humidity likes to create in my hair.
All of these products were $5 or less, and available at grocery/drug/big box stores. Now let’s turn it over to the Empire – what inexpensive hair care products are you using today?

During the recent Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale, many of their Beauty Rush products were 75% off. I’m using their Juiced Berry Hypergloss Shampoo and Conditioner, currently…they were $2.50 each at their Semi-Annual Sale!
