I am a bad, bad, BAD Minnesota Democratic. Why? Because I continue to give my love and money to Target, even though they gave their love and money to the Republican governor candidate. (Well, they donated money to an organization that backs the Republican candidate, but that’s close enough.)
However! Frugality and smart shopping spans all political parties… or at least it should. And Target is a great place to save money. In particular, it’s a great place to save on the CUTEST BOOTS IN THE WORLD, OH MY GAH I WANT FIVE PAIRS. Seriously. Have you seen this fall’s boot collection? Let’s examine the highlights, shall we?
Target is expanding their real leather offerings with these beauties:

The Merona-brand Kamischel suede lug boots for $34.99. And yes, that is REAL suede up in there, people. These boots join my favorite leather pair from last year:

The Mossimo-brand Katherine engineer leather boots for $49.99. I still want these, even though I’ve yet to pull the trigger and order them. They’re facing serious competition from these bad boys:

The Mossimo-brand Karianne over-the-knee boots for $34.99. Although these didn’t get good reviews online, I tried them on at the store and I LOVE them. It’s a hard look to pull off, though, so I hope they don’t sell and go on clearance for less than $25. Then I shall swoop in and snatch them up, toot sweet. Unless I pony up for these:

The Mossimo-brand Kaden tall buckle boots for $34.99. I’m such a sucker for buckle boots, plus I don’t have a pair in dark grey yet… And the justification process begins.
If you’ll recall, one of the exceptions to my $25 dollar or less shopping challenge is one pair of boots. I can’t go above $100, but I can go over my $25 limit. However, given the sheer quantity of boots I already own, I’m feeling the urge to keep it real and keep it at $25 or less. Okay Target, I support you. Now you support me and start putting these boots on sale!

It’s not that Target gave money to a Repub candidate, it’s that the candidate is a far-right homophobic candidate who opposes any type of gay rights or anti-discrimination laws. And is very much against gay marriage.
Although I usually try to make this site politics-free, I did feel like I had to mention the recent dust-up with Target.
And although this has nothing to do with frugal living, I fully support gay rights.
I love all of those boots! Sweet. I hope you are able to score another pair, eventually. I got a pair of Mossimo ankle boots earlier this year, but at Savers (for barely a few bucks!). They’re the most comfy boots I’ve ever had, and darn cute too. My go-to choice all the time. I’d go to Target for brand new boots, etc., etc., as I adore The Bullseye. Very reasonably-priced, good stuff. Worst thing for me is, really, the location of the pharmacy at the store I go to; it’s ridiculously close to health and beauty aisles, and traffic is crazy around there because of that. Very nuts. But other than that, Target rocks (shoes section = A+!).
The CEO of Target has been giving money to the Republicans for the past decade, I’m not sure why all of a sudden people are noticing now. He gave money to Michele Bachmann this year too, and she’s rabid about not having gays marry. While I fully support gay rights and gay marriage, I’m not sure a boycott really makes sense at this point. The CEO is just one part of the company, and the individual store owners all donate and give mostly to Republicans as well. Even if the CEO stops giving money to Republicans, it doesn’t mean the store owners will follow suit. The people that boycott Target, what about the other businesses they frequent? Are they searching their political donations as well?
Every business is going to have a Republican in it lurking about, giving money to politicians that want to stop gay marriage. A list of ethical and cheap businesses or stuff would be a nice addition to the Cheap Chick!
The boots at Target bother me more than anything because of the leather. I’d like to suggest buying only second-hand leather, it’s kinder to cows and the planet.
