Raise your hand if your allergies are driving you nuts! Yeah, I feel your pain. However, my allergy attack this morning was triggered by the cool and lovely weather we are experiencing in MN. I will take the snarfuls over the heat and humidity any day.
What do allergies vs. nasty weather have to do with frugal living? Well, not much. However, both have put me in a cranky mood for the last few days. And when I get cranky, all I want to do is SHOP. However, because I do my darnedest to be frugal, I want to shop without spending a ton of money. Fortunately, there are stores helping me in my quest for inexpensive retail therapy.
First up, ARC Value Village stores have a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Every Sunday, their previous week’s tag color are marked down to 99 cents. That means at the end of each week, the items that didn’t sell during the week will be just 99 cents. One cool dollar. That’s cheaper than a cup of coffee at McDonalds, my peeps.
On grim and ugly days, when nothing seems to fit, accessories are a girl’s best friend. Shiny objects ALWAYS fit, and at Fun Sisters Boutique, their prices always fit my tight budget. The Stillwater boutique is open all summer long, and the St. Paul boutique is open now until Friday. I think a little sparkly something will cheer me right up…
Of course, shoes make my day, every day, whether I’m in a bad mood or a good mood or it’s a day ending in Y. One cool place to shop for super-high-end shoes at extremely discounted prices is Optiz Outlet in St. Louis Park. I’ve talked about their great deals on clothes, but their shoes… Oh. My. GAH. Their shoe selection is to die for – and always 70 to 80% off retail prices. Fan them on Facebook, and/or join their e-mail club, and you’ll be notified firsthand of sales events. For, you know, even DEEPER discounts, if that’s even possible.
Where do you go for inexpensive retail therapy? Or do you eschew shopping when you’re in a bad mood?

Extra 30 percent off all Final Sale items at J.Crew online right now and extra 40% off all clearance stuff at Express online…
for me, Half-Priced Books is a great place to meander when I’m feeling down, or perusing the shelves at Borders, even if I can’t afford to buy anything.
For me these days, I can only afford Savers, the library sale shelves, and if I’m lucky, Half Price Books. I try to bring at least a few things to donate at Savers, so that I get a 20% off coupon in return. At my library, paperbacks for sale are a mere 50 cents, and hardcovers, $1.00. When I hit HPB, I can always count on the clearance books being only a few bucks, at most. I don’t even look at the rest of the store, usually.
The whole job hunt thing can be daunting, and honestly, sometimes depressing. But when I can find a “treasure” of some sort at one of those places, it brightens my day. Plus, if I shop wisely (and I am diligent to that end), the things I get will be useful, in addition to uplifting. I can’t be blowing what little I have, so, smart shopping’s the goal.
I simply love the look of your web pages. Did you make this blog theme yourself? It’s great! Way to go.
