THAT’S NOT MY NAME

Sadly, I’m not talking about that catchy tune by the Ting Tings.  I’m talking about other, wannabe, so-called frugal living experts bogarting my name – The Cheap Chick.  THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE.  Much like The Highlander, but without all the slicing off of people’s heads and awesome music by Queen.

So, Other People Trying to Use My Name, THIS MEANS WAR.  This also means a marked increase of post-man-ship around these parts.  Blogs and websites are like sharks – they have to keep moving forward, lest they die.  My other, non-Cheap Chick job has cut in to my blogging time.  I say, no more!

I also say, it’s time for a frugal tip or two, as that’s what this Empire is all about.  On to to the thriftiness!

1.  It’s still December, but I would mark your calendar NOW for my favorite January sale.  Nu Look Consignment in Minneapolis will host its semi-annual 50% Off Everything Winter sale starting Thursday, January 12, 2012.  50% of secondhand equals practically FREE, peeps!

2.  From the folks at Whole Foods and Pinterest, cool ways to reuse your stuff!  Ways to be crafty!  How to out-Martha Martha Stewart!  With pictures!  I am loving this site:  http://pinterest.com/wholefoods/we-re-used-to-reusing/.  And I am loving Jen Pierce for telling me about it.  Thanks, Jen!

3.  Last, but no where NEAR least, here are all the cool “How To Shop a Consignment Store for Holiday Fashions for Less” from the lovely people at Clothes Mentor.  Read on!

a. Add some sparkle to your outfit to really feel the magic of the holidays:  Choose 1 great piece to work around, so it’s not overdone.  EX: Pair a sequined bolero with a solid pencil skirt.

b. Be cold weather ready, but still holiday chic with faux fur:  For your casual events, wear a sweater with faux fur trim with your favorite pair of dark washed jeans, and for your more formal events, use this trend as outerwear.

c. Think red:  It’s festive, timeless and one of this year’s hottest holiday trends.  You’ll stand out in the crowd with a “little red dress”, or simply add a red clutch, accessory or a pair of shoes for a perfect splash of color.

d.  Accessorize appropriately:  If your outfit is embellished, keep your jewelry simple to one piece.  EX: When wearing a sequined dress, add a cocktail ring or stud earrings, but if you’re wearing a simple outfit, then go with bold, statement jewelry.

e. Dress comfortably:  Whether you’re dancing the night away, or standing for hours at an office party, you’ll want to make sure your clothes are not too tight, and your shoes are not too high.  But remember!  Dressing comfortably does not mean baggy. Baggy will actually add inches. Clothes should skim your body, but not cling.

Alright, peeps!  I’ll be back!  And much sooner than you think…

Kind of ironic for Whole Foods to promote re-use… They are building a store in Edina, and instead of re-using the existing Storables building, they completely demolished it. Hmm.

    The Cheap Chick's Daily Deal

    One In, One Out

I have a clothes shopping rule that has served me and my over-stuffed closets well.  Every time I bring a new item into my closet, I have to donate something from my closet (or consign it, if I think the item will sell).  One item in, one item out.  That way, I never have to buy new hangers!  Well, okay, that’s not the real reason.  That way, I alway know what is lurking in the depths of my closets, and stuff isn’t just being shoved to the back to make way for the new.  If I’m not wearing something, someone else could.

So wear do I donate?  It depends on time, volume, and whether or not I need a coupon.  Typically, I’m pressed for time, so I drop my donations off at the Goodwill in Roseville, which I pass my way to work.  If I want a coupon for my next thrift store shopping spree, I donate to Savers.  Also, if I have a ton of stuff to donate, I’ll typically go to Savers – either in Columbia Heights or Bloomington.

And if I want to consign, and I have the time, I hit up Nu Look Consignment in Minneapolis (call to see if you need an appointment first).  If I’m consigning on the fly, it’s either Clothes Mentor or Turn Style in Roseville.
