Raise your hand if 2012 has been the busiest year EVER. And it’s only SIX DAYS OLD, HOLYGAH!!!! For serious, peeps, life at The Cheap Chick Empire has been overwhelming, to say the least. However! That does not mean I’m not still all about the frugally goodness. Because I am. All about it.
And on that note, here are a few frugal things to try in the (relatively) new year. Some stuff you may already be doing, and some stuff may be So. Totally. Mindblowing. Let’s take a look…
1. Do try shopping at ALDI for your non-perishables. I’m not completely sold on ALDI’s for fruits and veggies, but for things like canned goods, cereal, snacks and spices (say that ten times fast)? I say give ALDI a go for a month, and see if it saves you money. Bear in mind, you’ll need to bring your own bags, and pay 25 cents for a cart. For more ALDI user tips, check out their website.
2. Don’t shop online alone! Instead, partner up with a friend or two the next time you shop at a .com. That way, your combined order will be large enough in price to qualify you for free shipping. For example, if you and your buds order $50 or more at Forever21.com, you’ll qualify for free shipping. This uber-sneaky-cool way to save money was brought to you by my bestie, HaC.
3. Do thrift more of your daily wear. As you may have read on these (cyber) pages, I utterly and completely love fashion blogs. And the bloggers I love the most – Megan Mae, Sheila, Futurelint, Kasmira, and Sally McGraw – are thrifting QUEENS. Looking at their daily, super-cute, and thrifted outfits inspires me to make thrifted items the cornerstone of my wardrobe, too.
4. Don’t forget to buy frozen diet entrees NOW. The beginning of January is Dieting Season in the frozen food aisle. Lean Cusines are $2 a piece at Cub Foods, and $2+change at Target (plus, you get a $5 gift card if you buy 10). I prefer Lean Cusines to the other brands, and the Roast Turkey with Cinnamon Apples is my fave. They make a perfect, super-fast, calories-controled lunch. Just what I need after the food free-for-all that is the holiday season…
Now let’s hear from you, peeps. What are you doing in the new year to save money? Anything cool and different?

Oh,man, I LOVE to thrift. It’s like a sickness. A cheap sickness, but still. I’m going again on Sat!
Thanks so much for the shout-out! Part of my new year saving money tips are eating more fresh in-season food. One way of comparing is $4 box of strawberries in winter VS 99 cents for a box in summer. Knowing what items are in-season can also help you take advantage of fresh produce. Does double duty for eating healthier resolutions. Additionally eating more fruits and veggies and smaller meat portions means easier on the pocket book since meat is expensive.
